Forssa Textile Week 15.-18.8.2024
Published: 19/06/2024
Are you interested in Scandinavian textile design or working in the textile industry in Scandinavia? If so, Forssa Textile Week is an event not to be missed!
Forssa Textile Week aims to promote the role of design and sustainable textiles in our society and to act as a hub for contemporary textiles. The first ever Forssa Textile Week was organized in August 2023. Approximately 2500-3000 participants visited Forssa during the event which consisted of exhibitions and pop-up shops. An essential part of the week were the daily sessions where professionals and experts discussed the textile industry from various viewpoints together with the audience.
In the 2024 edition of Forssa Textile Week, the themes are patterns, design and sustainable textiles. The focus country will be Sweden, so there will be a wide representation of speakers and participants for Scandinavian design. Jenni Moberg from Patternsfrom Agency will be there on the 15th to open the event and host the discussion session with the keynote speakers. The program and the speakers have been published, so mark your calendars for the greatest Scandinavian textile event of the year!
When checking the map for the location of Forssa, you might wonder why to put the effort into visiting such a remote town. Actually, Forssa has had a very important role in the development of the Finnish textile industry: the first spinning mill was established next to Loimijoki River in 1847, and later on, there were mills for dyeing, weaving, and printing. Today the Forssa Museum and the Pattern Centre display the history of textiles and pattern designs that have had a role in Forssa’s further development. Simply said, people who are into Scandinavian textile design should not miss the museum when visiting Finland.
PS. If you are interested in joining Forssa Textile Week with your own textile-related program (exhibition, popup shop etc.), please note that the application period has started!
