Home textile trends: Whimsical

Published: 11/03/2025

Do you need help in navigating upcoming home textile trends? Look no further, as we have done it for you already! Our two other pattern concepts, Classy and Lovely, have been introduced to you earlier. Now it is time to take a look at the Whimsical pattern concept. This concept is perfect for people feeling adventurous. Here you can find wild and quirky patterns with exciting colors, funny characters, and more.

The Niyaniya Neko, whimsical concept for 2025 and beyond, takes you to the surreal fantasy land. It takes inspiration from psychedelic rock and surrealistic art, but takes it in a naive and child-like direction. The name is Japanese and means in English “grinning cat” as a reference to the Cheshire cat that grins in Lewis Carrols’ story “Lisa’s adventures in Wonderland”. In Wonderland everything is possible and there are no rules. Lines are distorted, the vanishing point moves, and creatures are non-existing and hide in places we normally cannot see like in caves or deep in the ocean.

The Niyaniya Neko concept can also take a more classical perspective and scoop up inspiration from Salvador Dali’s work, Alice in Wonderland -book or 70’s psychedelic rock bands such as Pink Floyd or Jefferson Airplane. Or it can take a futuristic form and find inspiration from AR, gaming, and new innovational technologies and materials.

Here is a nice glimpse of what our designers have created for this concept.

These three patterns are with a vibrant green for daring interiors.

The first pattern is Hanna Ruusulampi‘s “Kymmene Tikkua”. It is part of the colorful and playful ‘Lysti’ pattern family. This pattern is named is named after a traditional Finnish kids’ outdoor play. The pattern itself is as joyful as the play, but a very versatile pattern for many uses.

The second in the line is a pattern called “Jaguar” designed by Anniina Korte. It is part of the Vivacious Pattern family that takes you from bright hues to pastel dreams. The “Jaguar” is a wild and timeless classic print with striking colors and contrasts, suitable e.g. as a print on a duvet cover set or a shower curtain.

The last of these three patterns is also from our designer Anniina Korte. This pattern is part of the same pattern family as the previous one. The three-color abstract pattern “Smash” is inspired by the splattering of colored smoke into the air, creating momentarily misty pastel worlds.

The first of these patterns is Tiina Taivainen‘s “Ruokatauko”. This is part of the ‘Toukkakuu’ pattern family. The name refers to the month of August in Finland when you can find big caterpillars that are ready for metamorphosis. This pattern is designed for kids’ interiors and fashion. “Ruokatauko” is the word in Finnish for a meal break. The everlasting meal break is soon over and the caterpillars are getting ready to become butterflies! This pattern is sketched by cutting pieces out of paper.

The second in the line is a pattern called “Feather Foliage”, designed by Luova Flow‘s Jenna Nelson. It is part of the ‘Jungle Journey’ pattern family and bit more for adult taste. It celebrates a lush and abundant jungle atmosphere. The ‘Feather Foliage’ is an adventure to a deep, jungle forest with its curious creatures and wild plants.

The last of these three patterns is also from our guest designer, Tiina Taivainen. The pattern family “In my Head” represents all the hundreds of thoughts and feelings that go through our heads every day even simultaneously. Sometimes it may feel chaotic, but if you take a step backward and take another look, they can form something beautiful and unexpected. The pattern “Temple” is a pattern that is designed for large-scale surfaces like wallpaper. This pattern is perfect for bold home decor.
