Pattern design trends: Lovely
Published: 28/01/2025
Patternsfrom Agency guides its designers with pattern and color concepts. Our three concepts, Classy, Lovely, and Whimsical, have their own design stories, mood boards, and color palettes. We update the concepts once a year to keep up with the pattern design trends.
Earlier you have seen some patterns developed for the Classy-concept, so this time let’s take a look at the Lovely concept. This concept is for people yearning for romance. Here you can find all there is to it: soft colors, delicate flowers, sweet things, and more.
The concept for designing lovely patterns with Nordic twist for 2025 and beyond is called “Tinctoria”. It is a garden full of herbs, flowers, and plants with a purpose. It is a healer’s herb garden, a dyer’s secret place to collect tinctorial flowers, plants, and fungus, or a cook’s backyard to gather wild herbs and mushrooms. The “Tinctoria” has a magical touch and connection to past world beliefs. It can mix up astrology, and tarot cards with healing rituals. The natural feel of this concept takes its abstract motif from hand dyeing, ecoprint, embroidery, quilting, and mending.
Here is a nice glimpse of what our designers have created for this concept.
These three patterns are about Nordic florals.
The first pattern is Miira Zukale‘s “Waterlily”. It is part of the pattern family that combines cute and imaginative water flowers and seashells. For the original sketch of the Waterlily pattern, Miira cut flowers and leaves out of paper. The result is a pretty and fresh pattern for many purposes, with a hint of aquatic atmosphere.
The second in the line is a pattern called “Sulot” designed by Hanna Ruusulampi. This pattern is inspired by spring moods with an imaginary fruit tree blossoming.
The last of these three patterns is from our guest designer Jenna Nelson. This pattern is part of a pattern family of botanical motifs in maximalist compositions and with a magical atmosphere. The pattern is called “Painterly Plants”. It was inspired by the wild growth in lush gardens where plants live together in harmony. Jenna painted it with gouache paints.
The first of these patterns is Hanna Ruusulampi‘s “Zodiac”. This pattern is inspired by astrology and new spirituality. Hanna got the idea for the Zodiac pattern, which consists of zodiac signs and planetary symbols when she was practicing handwriting. Astrological symbols look like letters to her.
The second in the line is a pattern called “Moment of Bloom”, designed by Ammi Lahtinen. This floral pattern is a visual memory from the end of summer when the evenings are already slowly darkening. You look around the garden and catch the phase when the full bloom is about to disappear. It might take just one windy night, and all the flowers will be gone.
The last of these three patterns is from our guest designer, Jenna Nelson. The pattern “Frosty Ditsy” is inspired by arctic nature and its different, intriguing sides. This pattern features a composition of neatly growing plants and flowers, inspired by the depths of northern forests.
