Botanic Impressions – Shingle
A shingle roof is a traditional, waterproof roof made of wood, where thin strips of wood, called shingles, are used as the covering. Shingle roofs were widely made in Finland from the early 19th century until the 1960s. I have also seen the same construction method used in several Central European countries. Shingle darkens when they get wet and age. When fresh, its tone is more even. I was interested in reproducing this natural material onto canvas. The Shingle pattern repeats this traditional pattern in a modern way.
